Hot Wheels Burnin' Rubber Review
Choose from up to 25 authentic Hot Wheel cars and speed through 16 different tracks. Select your car in the garage which begins with 5 at first to choose from and 20 more when unlocked. Select from Street Rods, Super Sport, Super Screamers, Muscle Cars and from the Sports Gallery in colors of red, blue, purple, green, black and silver. You can choose them on how cool they look or on how they handle, check speed ratings ( the higher the top speed rating, the faster a car will go on straight-aways,) acceleration (quicker off the line,) and handling ( sometimes a car with better handling will give you a faster lap time.) You can choose automatic or manual transmission for your little car. We preferred automatic, just seemed quicker and easier.
One of the things I like about the game is that you can earn coins while at the Grand Prix that you need to purchase upgrades to fine-tune your car. You can add more speed, acceleration and improve handling by upgrading or adding to your engine, muffler, computer chip, suspension, wheels, brakes and the rear end.
The game screen will show you your total time, course map (showing all opponents,) rpm gauge ( for manual tran,) current rank, speedometer and the current gear you are in.
The different courses you can get to are -- Backgammon, Blue sky, Casino, Desert, Desk, Dining table, Floral, Galaxy, Hot wheels, Jungles, Piano, Pond and The Snow course. In each of these courses look for an exclamation mark, it will be near a shortcut to improve your lap time, but is not always easy to take.
As you complete each stage in the main player game "grand prix" you can unlock hidden cars and tracks. In "free race" you can practice on any track you've unlocked. In "time trial" beat the best times for each course to unlock hidden cars. You get 3 tries to defeat each course before starting over at the first course, which we did alot. At the end of a race the results with lap times, ranking and total race time will be shown.
Here's your chance to drive your dream car, burn some rubber and race for the championship.
GAMEPLAY: 7.5
Easy to learn how to play but not so easy to win a race. With so many cars and
courses to choose from this is a game you would come back to.
GRAPHICS: 7
Average visual effects.
SOUND: 8
You can choose from 32 background songs and 44 different sound effects. Good
quality, although several sounded the same.
DIFFICULTY: 7.5
Easy controls for ages 5 and up. A to go - B to stop. However, certain courses we
found frustratingly difficult.
CONCEPT: 7
This game is rated E for everybody, and is for everybody that likes racing
games.
MULTIPLAYER: 8
To play against another player each needs a Game Boy Advance system a copy of
the game and a game link cable.
OVERALL: 8
A fun game to add to your Game Boy Advance collection.
