Army Men: Operation Green Review

This is the first Army Men title to bring realistic military action and combat to the Game Boy Advance. My 8 year old Army game fanatic jumped on it but then became quickly frustrated at the challenge of progressing through the levels. There are 15 levels set in 5 environments, if you can get that far. After hours of gameplay we are still unable to get past level 2.

Read the mission objectives and control your little Army guy in his missions...

For search and rescue -- find an item, person, or vehicle and return to base or another mission area.
For search and destroy -- Find an item, place, building, person, vehicle or enemy and destroy it.
For delivery -- Carry an item or cargo from one area or building to another.
For escort -- Guard a person or vehicle while returning to base or another mission area.

The weapons your Army Men can use in combat are the bazooka ( detonates on impact,) flamethrower (melt tan's on contact,) grenades, knife, minesweeper, m-60 and a rifle with unlimited ammo. You can get upgrades for your weapons by collecting power-ups, an m-60 will allow your rifle a faster rate-of-fire, collect gasoline to refuel your vehicle, medic-kit to replenish your health bar, grenades, minesweeper to increase duration, flame tank, bazooka shells and an extra life.

You can work your way up to using vehicles at certain levels. The half-track, cargo truck, jeeps, and the boss of the battlefield, the tank. On your gamescreen you can find your health bar, number of extra lives, number of grenades, fuel bar, extra fuel supply and your current weapon. At the menu you can see your mission objectives, view the mission map, set your music in options, abort your mission or enter a password.  An unfortunate feature, this game requires a password to save a game, which means having to write it down which isn't always convenient.

GAMEPLAY: 7.5
You can select controls from directional mode or rotational mode to change the gameplay directions.  Basically easy controls, a to shoot, b to throw grenades.

GRAPHICS: 8
Good visuals of animated soldiers and their surroundings.

SOUND: 6.5
The music is just okay, if you don't want to hear it you can turn it off in options.

DIFFICULTY: 8
The difficulty doesn't lie in the control of the game but in the challenge to complete the levels.

CONCEPT: 7
Rated E for everyone with mild violence. Real combat with plastic men may not be suitable for younger players.

OVERALL: 7
Although this game may be somewhat too challenging it is fun and would make a good addition to your army game collection.
