Lego Drome Racers Review

It is the year 2015, and the world’s population is into new and thrilling forms of entertainment. Drome is the new rage across the world; people can watch it via the TV or the Internet. People travel from all around the world, to this location to participate in this extreme racing event. There are millions of cameras everywhere to watch every move that the racers make. Everyone that gets to see or actually participate in this elite competition proves to be an experience of a lifetime!

There are three main modes in this game: Quick Race, Arcade, and Championship. In quick race, the game randomly generates a car and a track to race on. In arcade mode, players can choose a single race, time attack, or dragsters. Single race will allow players to choose a track on which to race on. Players race against the clock in time attack, also in this mode players can choose the track and car. Dragster is a drag race game, meaning just a straight road and nothing more.

Championship is the real meat of Drome Racers. Players will race and try to win each of the Drome Cups, and the more you win the harder the races will become. To progress players must be in the top three on each race for each cup. Each Cup will have a mix of off road and on road tracks. When all your points are combined, you must be in the top three to finish that Cup, which will unlock the next Cup to compete in.

During the course of the game players can upgrade their cars through the point system. Each car has four different stats that can be improved upon: top speed, acceleration, handling, and grip. Players will have to be strategic when placing their points because they have three cars to look after, and you want each of them to be at their best.

To help in each race there are many power-ups that players will find on each of the tracks. These include homing rockets, mines, shields, rockets, flares, nitros, and other things that will take your rivals by surprise!

What was really surprising to me is that this game was in 3D, and the best part is that it didn’t feature that many slow downs. Players will find themselves going down hills, mountains, and many more things. Due to hardware limitations, there is not much texture use, so players will see a lot of solid browns and grays throughout the game, but it is understandable. The cars also look really good, and have nice bits of detail.

Drome Racers is rated E for Everyone.

Reviewer's Scoring Details

Gameplay: 7.5
The game is really fun to play. The controls are easy to learn and master, there are upgrades players can do to their cars, and power-ups to make the game more interesting.

Graphics: 8.2
Drome Racers looks really good, for a 3D game being on the GBA!

Sound: 7.8
The audio is pretty decent for this sort of game. There is nothing here that will wow you, but there are plenty of engine noises and crowd cheering to keep you going.

Difficulty: Easy
It is obvious that this game is geared more towards a younger audience. The game is just too easy for anyone who has played any form of racing games.

Concept: 7.3
It is hard to really revolutionize the racing genre on the GBA due to many of the limits that is imposed upon it. I have to give the developers credit for making it feel 3D, but I have played better racing games that had more features for the GBA.

Multiplayer: N/A
Drome Racers supports multiplayer with three other gamers. To do single ran, time attack, and dragster. At the time of the review, I did not get a chance to test it out.

Overall: 7.7
Drome Racers is a really good game for the younger audience to play, and they will enjoy it too. If you are an older gamer, you might want to pass this one up.
