Disney's That's so Raven 2 Supernatural Style Review

Raven is back again, but with a whole new look and format. A2M are the new developers, and have given Raven a few new moves in That’s So Raven 2: Supernatural Style.

This time, instead of spraying people with perfume, she throws cream pies, which are limited to ones she picks up. In each level, Raven also collects a different outfit, which comes equipped with a unique weapon. In one level, she gains a cheerleading outfit with pom-poms as weapons. In another level, she is a rock star, and sends out deadly singing to deafen foes. She can also jump on platforms in this game (if you can call it jumping, that is). The best new feature is the addition of a clothing design area, where players can design and color outfits for Raven to wear. These clothing items can be purchased in a store with money from coins that Raven has collected.

While this is technically a platform game, there isn’t much action. Raven can jump, but it’s more like a hop than a jump. Getting her across to ledges is incredibly difficult, as most of the time she just won’t make it. After trying umpteen times to get to the same ledge, only to fall again and again, most players will give up because there’s not enough incentive to keep going. The button control is atrocious. Also, oftentimes Raven will stand on air, instead of ledges.

This is not a very good game, and is not much of an improvement over the first Raven. The clothing design feature was a move in the right direction, but isn’t enough by itself to raise this game from the mire of mediocrity. The button control is bad, and the jumping is frustrating, to say the least. It’s odd that the same developers made this game and also Kim Possible 3, which is a superior game and a ton of fun. Families are better off with either Kim Possible 3 for the older kids, or Lizzie McGuire 2 for the younger set.

Review Scoring Details for Disney's That's so Raven 2 Supernatural Style

Gameplay: 5.0
The gameplay isn’t any fun, mostly because of having to play the same area again and again, because Raven won’t jump. Eventually, she dies, and the player has to begin the level again.

Graphics: 7.0
The graphics are fairly well done, and seem to have more variety than the previous game.

Sound: 6.0
The music and sound effects are pretty average.

Difficulty: Medium
The game isn’t meant to be difficult, but is in reality because of the bad button control.

Concept: 6.0
A2M had a few good ideas, but the bad outweighs the good.

Overall: 6.0
This is yet another game tied to a popular kids show, and unfortunately it belongs to the vast majority of so-so products based on a famous license. Pass this one by.
